The mission of the Baltimore Lab School Library is to provide resources to support the academic needs and learning styles of the Baltimore Lab School community in the 21st century. Our library collection, located in the Legacy Room, exposes students to quality information across all content areas in both print and electronic formats. The library program provides opportunities for students to become effective users of information. Additionally, the library collection reflects the value of reading for pleasure as a key element in the development of the mind and spirit.
Baltimore Lab School's library collection includes over 4,000 print sources. These include classic and contemporary fiction books, curriculum related nonfiction books, and general reference sources. Students also have access a number of database and ebook collections on campus and from home. These include interactive research databases: Encyclopedia Britannica K-12, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, EBSCO Explora Primary and Secondary, and the Proquest SIRS databases, including SIRS Discoverer and SIRS Knowledge Source. Students also have access to a collection of ebooks and audiobooks through our Destiny library catalog and our subscription to Tumblebooks Premium and Tumblebook Cloud.
Our collection is managed by the web-based Follett Destiny system. All students have access to our library catalog, on campus and from home, via a web browser. The catalog can be accessed by performing a basic search, a visual search, or through Destiny Quest, Destiny’s interactive and visually engaging interface. Searching the catalog using Destiny allows patrons to narrow a search by genre and reading level.
In addition to the resources housed in the Legacy Room, there are over 3,000 books located in classrooms throughout the school. These books can be located using the Destiny online catalog and are available to any teacher or student who needs to borrow them.
