Arts-Integrated Summer Learning

At Baltimore Lab School, arts integration is not an “extra”—it is a core instructional approach that shapes how students learn, engage, and build confidence. In the Summer Program, visual art, movement, design, music, and creative expression are intentionally woven into academic instruction to support students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences. By pairing academics with hands-on creative work, students are able to access material in ways that feel meaningful, motivating, and effective.

Arts-integrated learning allows students to explore reading, writing, and math concepts through multiple pathways. A writing lesson may begin with sketching or visual storytelling; a literacy activity might incorporate movement or performance; a math concept may be reinforced through design or building. These approaches help students strengthen comprehension, memory, and executive functioning skills while reducing anxiety and frustration often associated with traditional classroom settings.

By integrating the arts into daily instruction, Baltimore Lab School’s Summer Program helps students discover their strengths, stay academically engaged, and experience success through doing—not just listening. The result is learning that feels active, accessible, and empowering, leaving students better prepared and more confident heading into the school year ahead.
