Strengthening Skills Through Engaging Learning
At Baltimore Lab School, academic support remains a central part of the Summer Program—but it looks and feels very different from the traditional school year. Designed for students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences, the program helps children maintain and boost academic momentum while experiencing learning as engaging, hands-on, and confidence-building. The goal is not remediation or test preparation, but meaningful reinforcement that keeps skills fresh and students motivated.
Students receive targeted instruction in reading, writing, and math through small-group learning led by licensed special educators who understand how learning differences affect attention, processing, and confidence. Lessons are intentionally low-pressure and highly personalized, allowing students to strengthen core skills without the stress that often accompanies academic work during the school year. By removing the fear of failure, students are more willing to take risks, ask questions, and engage fully.
Academic programming is thoughtfully tailored by grade level to ensure relevance and developmental fit. Younger students focus on foundational literacy and numeracy through creative projects, academic clubs, and hands-on activities that naturally build executive functioning skills. Middle school students reinforce core academics while working on organization, planning, and independence. High school students engage in experiential learning that emphasizes written expression, problem-solving, and real-world application—skills that support success beyond the classroom.
By blending structured academic support with creativity and exploration, Baltimore Lab School’s Summer Program helps learning stick without feeling like school. Students leave the program having maintained essential skills—and often with a renewed sense of confidence in their ability to learn, grow, and succeed in the year ahead.
